SME Reorganizes Staff for Strategic Growth

SME has experienced significant growth during the past ten years in terms of membership, member services, and programs. In order to better serve the current membership and the expected future growth of the Society, the SME Board of Directors approved a new staff organizational structure that will bring more strategic leadership to the organization.

“Staff is now better positioned to accommodate future growth of SME, to help increase revenues, to improve customer services to members, and to better define day-to-day direction of staff,” said David L. Kanagy, SME Executive Director, in announcing the reorganization.

The new organizational chart shows the four major areas of functional emphasis in the organization:

  • Meetings, Membership,and Publications

  • Finance, Administration, and Information Technology

  • Government Relations, Public Affairs, and Communications

  • Education and Foundation Programs

Four director positions have been added to the organization to support each of these functional areas within the Society. Mike Hedges has been appointed as Deputy Executive Directors for Finance, Administration and Information Technology. John Hayden was appointed Deputy Executive Director for Government Relations, Public Affairs and Communications. Sharon Schonhaut has been appointed Director of Education and the SME Foundation. The last area, meetings, membership and publications will be led by a Director of Operations, yet to be identified.
