Minerals Education Coalition offers its periodic table in Spanish

Popular double-sided, vinyl poster is available for purchase online

The Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce its most popular curriculum supplement, the “Creating a Universe / Blue Marble” poster, is now available in Spanish.

Designed for teachers and students in middle and high school grades, the “Creación de un Universo” side of the periodic table describes the history and common uses of each of the elements, as well as facts about the solar system and elements in the human body. The “El Mármol Azul” side features color photos of the minerals that are associated with the element.

“This informative and attractive poster has been translated from the English version of the periodic table of the elements so that students and professionals throughout Spanish-speaking countries and in bilingual education programs in the United States can benefit from our educational materials,” said SME Director of Education and Foundation Sharon Schonhaut.

The colorful double-sided poster measures 54” x 36” and is printed on polyvinyl and folded for easy storage. The cost of the poster is $20 USD and is available for purchase online at www.mineralseducationcoalition.org/store. The posters will also be sold in the SME Bookstore during the 2014 SME Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT, Feb. 23-26, 2014.

Anyone attending the SME Annual Meeting who would like to avoid international delivery expenses incurred when ordering online may pre-order copies of El Mármol Azul / Creación de un Universo and pick them up at the SME Bookstore during the meeting.
