Current Trends in Mining Finance Conference

Experts on global financial markets will share professional insights

The New York Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is hosting the third annual conference to address current issues that affect mine development and finance, as well as strategic planning and risk analysis. Registration is now open for the event which will be held April 26-29, 2015, at the Princeton Club in New York. Current Trends in Mining Finance: Improving Profitability by using Smart Finance and Big Data offers mining executives and financial analysts a wide range of opportunities for interaction.

“As the largest professional society in the mining industry, SME is pleased to provide a forum for industry experts to share their experiences and knowledge of the financial complexities associated with today’s global mining business community,” said SME Executive Director David L. Kanagy.

The conference will feature sessions addressing:

  • Smarter use of data and technology

  • Risk factors in the current market environment

  • New sources of capital for mining projects

  • Reducing operating and capital costs

  • Drivers of industry mergers and acquisition

Tim Alch, co-chair of the conference, added that in addition to hearing leading experts discuss the latest trends about raising capital and use of technology and data to better manage operations, cost and risk, there are two dynamic short courses; Managing Metal Risk Exposures, and Integrated Valuation and Risk Modeling Methods in the Mining Industry. The delegate dinner on Sunday will provide an opportunity for attendees to network with their colleagues and fellow professionals.

Featured keynote speakers at the delegate dinner:

  • Dylan Webb, Datamine – will discuss recent real-world case studies of improved orebody knowledge.

  • José Favilla Jr., IBM – will demystify what is meant by “big data” and how to realize the most value from it.
